Well Hello There, Third Trimester!!

How did you sneak up on me so fast?

I'm 27 weeks along today, and not quite sure where the last 15 weeks or so went. It's not like I don't remember them, but in all my angst and excitement each Thursday when my week number ticks up to the next, I seem to have lost track of how much time as actually passed. At the same time, though, when I think back to week 19 when we learned that the Cooligan is a boy, it seems like forever ago. It's such a strange feeling, really.

So, the Third (and final!) trimester are upon us. That means 13 weeks until we have a baby... yikes!! While mentally, I think I'm far from being prepared, we have accomplished a good deal of the physical preparations: We've primed and painted the room, built the crib, stained and assembled the dresser, purchased the glider (we're picking it up today!) installed shelving, cleaned out the closet, and created some nursery art to make the room more personal (A post about that coming soon...) Tomorrow, I'll head to Ithaca with Kim to pick up our CD stash, so that will be ready in advance. Now I just need to wait for the various baby showers to occur, and purchase last minute items.

I'm not excited about the supposed uncomfortableness of the third trimester. Here's a list, according to the Mayo Clinic, of what I have to look forward to: Backaches, shortness of breath, heartburn, spider/varicose veins, hemorrhoids, continued breast growth (lord help me), weight gain (duh), braxton hicks contractions, stretch marks and swelling. Sounds like a blast!!

At least (here's some hopeful thinking) going back to school might take my mind off of it all for a while... I'd like to think about something besides pregnancy these days. It seems, though, that no matter how hard I try, my mind just wants to stay on this one track. Maybe it's a biological thing?
