Vacation!

Brian and I just got back from spending a few days in New York City with Becky and Sean. While New York doesn't really count as a "vacation," we had a super relaxing and refreshing time. Here are some of the highlights:

1. However, cheesy, I've always wanted to take one of those boat tours of NYC. I've been there many many times now and I've done most of the tourist-y things, but a cruise around the island just sounded so nice. So, we figured we'd scratch that off our to-do list this summer, seeing as it will get more complicated in the future with a baby. Daytime harbor cruises were reasonably priced, but when I priced dinner cruises (which sounds so much nicer) I was surprised by a $150 price tag. Sheesh! Luckily, Brian's college roommate John Taylor has a membership to a certain club through work, and scored us $25 tickets. We sailed above a private yacht that was far more intimate and cozy than a huge tourist boat. It was a 2 1/2 hour cruise with a buffet, bar, and with some of our best friends from Canisius. Here's a picture of us: Joe Reid, Brian , Me, John Taylor and Elena Taylor.

On the cruise, we sailed down the East River, around the southern tip of Manhattan, up the Hudson and then back. We got breathtaking views of Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge and SO much more. It was warm and clear-- we couldn't have asked for better weather or a more enjoyable time. A few more pictures:

2. Becky made me virgin mojitos!! Yummmm!!

3. Brian and I went with Sean, Becky and Colin to his first "Baby Swim" class. It was the cutest thing. A bunch of moms with their babies in the water for the first time and an instructor so freakishly pleasant that you had to love her. Colin was the shyest baby, but of course he was also the cutest. Becky expected him to scream upon getting in the water, but he did so well!

4. And lastly, we ate dinner on the train on the ride back to Syracuse. This sounds small, but it's something I've always wanted to do. I LOVE the train-- there's something very reminiscent and romantic about it, and it's so much more relaxing and peaceful than a flight. We had a fantastic server and a beautiful view of the sunset during dinner. The food was a little gross, but the atmosphere made up for it completely.

Hooray for vacations! Tomorrow it's back to school for me, and the beginning of a long month of manly nursery renovations for Brian :)
