16 Weeks

Okay--this week I'll admit that the bump you see is partially baby. I've always had a pudge, but I find that lately, no matter how hard I try and suck it in, it just won't go in. I'm not sure how I feel about this yet :) It'll be nicer when my baby bump outgrows the bumps that were already there, so instead of looking like I live on beer and pork rinds, I'll look pregnant!

How far along? 16 weeks.

Best part of these 2 weeks:
When Brian brought home the bebesounds monitor. It doesn't work, but the thought alone was all I really needed.

How do I feel? Good-- still very few physical complaints. Today I busted out the maternity pants for the first time, and I was SO much more comfortable. I don't know that I'm big enough to justify them yet, but when I sit or bend over in regular pants, I feel like I'm squishing something. (Probably am).

Cravings/Aversions: Vinegar-y things, and bagels. I've spent $5 a day on a bagel and OJ in the mornings (only fresh Breugger's bagels will do). This needs to stop!

What I miss: Being hungry and actually knowing what I want. I spend a lot of time feeling SO hungry, but wanting to gag at the thought of any and all food.

What I'm looking forward to: According to everything I've read, I should feel the baby move sometime fairly soon. I'm looking forward to that.

Weekly Wisdom: I was just naive to think that elastic waistbands were just for Grandmas. (Love you Grandma!). I honestly think I may wear these maternity pants forever--they're fabulous! Also, I learned that maternity clothing is ridiculously overpriced!!

Another fun milestone this week was the onset of Baby Dreams. I woke up sobbing last night after a nightmare about the Doctor telling me there was no way this baby would make it till the end of the pregnancy. I don't remember a lot of details, but I think it was partially related to the fact that I had blood drawn for genetic testing yesterday. Whatever the origin, it caused me to wake up sobbing and terrified. It was one of those dreams that was so realistic that it took me a few minutes to separate what was real and what was the dream in my mind. Not fun!

And finally, to lighten the mood after that, here's Brian showing off his bump. He's very proud of it, apparently, because I didn't even take this-- he did it on his own :)

So you are having twins..you are having one and Brian is having one himself. If you both go on the same day, maybe you will get a discount on the insurance, if not go for a reality t.v. gig.

Glad to hear all is very well. I love the picture(s).

This is an odd question that is obviously asked by someone who has not been pregnant, but can you add information about how underwear fit as you gain more weight. I know odd question.

I didn't do any genetic testing. It is strange what some places do and others don't do. You look so cute. I told you that you were going to love that elastic waist!

I love Brian. He is so supportive of you!

I love the elastic waisted pants. no zipper/button to worry about, and super comfy! I wore my maternity jeans early too; I was just too excited to wait:) The fact that Brian has to arch his back that much to get a little bump makes me want to slap him!

In response to Elaine's question about underwear: 1-buy a bigger bra when you need it. It is worth it. I have gone up 1 cup size and 1 bust size so far. I bought some bra extensions from target, but they just don't cut it. I only use them for my strapless bras because I don't wear them as much. 2-I have gone up 2 sizes in my underwear bottoms (I hate calling them "panties" but that is what I am talking about). I have seen special pregnancy underwear, but just going up a size when I need it has worked for me. Was that TMI? I hope that info was helpful for someone out there:)

I can't wait to hear what you are having!!!! Are you going to tell? btw, I won't be at yoga this week...I am going to a bbq.

Julie you are so helpful! Brian also apologizes for his unimpressive bump. He said he "could" get fatter, but that would be like cheating. Now I want to slap him too :)

Also, yes, I will be telling what we're having. I'll probably follow all my friends and keep the name a secret, but the gender would be too exciting to keep a secret!

You look great! I can definitely see baby bump, so stop being so self-deprecating. You looked great pre-pregnancy, you'll look great through the pregnancy, and I"m sure you'll look great after you deliver.

As to Elaine's question, I never had to buy different underwear. I wear the Pink low-rise bikinis from VS and they worked just fine throughout the whole pregnancy. The nurses in the hospital would always comment on my cute undies when I had to have my daily NSTs or monitoring. They do have maternity underwear -- but who would actually wear their underwear pulled up over their belly??

I never had to buy different bras -- but that's because my boobs never grew. Seriously. I think I'm probably the only person who nursed twins for a year who didn't get gigantic, fun, porn-star boobs. Okay, yes, they would be slightly porn-starish after a night of not pumping -- but not at all teh size I had hoped for! :)

Sweetie you look wonderful!! And Brian is "our" comic relief! He is too funny...can't wait to see how he does in the delivery room! I am giving away some flowers...do you need any for your gardens? Love to all...Mrs. J
